Welcome to Capitol Hill: Lincoln Park

When we run or go for walks we almost always pass by Lincoln Park, which is about half a mile away from our condo and exactly one mile from the Capitol.

The Abraham Lincoln Emancipation Statue at Lincoln Park.
On sunny days, I often daydream about Travis and I strolling over to the park for the afternoon with a blanket, some books, snacks, and just lounging beneath a big, blue sky, enjoying our togetherness. Ahh...so sunny...so warm...sooo...happyyyy...  Goodness! We really should do that more often!

Lincoln Park is spacious and green, and surrounded by tall, dignified trees. It is right in the middle of the neighborhood, so charming row houses line the perimeter. Lots of people go to this park to exercise or just chill with their families and/or dogs. And rumor has it that Lincoln Park does not require pets to be on a leash, so the dogs there are happy, no doubt. They are free to frolic and roam to their little canine hearts’ content. But the funny part about this is that the playground where the kiddos play is fenced in, while the dogs are given free reign. No fenced in doggie area. Just a fenced in area for the children. What is going on here? Do people in this neighborhood love dogs more than children? Or maybe they trust dogs more than they trust children. Children: Forced into confinement. Dogs: Run around at will. The set up makes one wonder... But even if the playground is fenced in and the dogs are not, I enjoy watching both kids and pups alike having such a good time playing around.

Here’s us with our pals, the Mays, having a picnic dinner at the park on a pleasant August evening after a slew of downpours (hence the plastic tarp under our picnic blanket).

Me, Eric, and Sara.

Slightly awkward pose here, but still cute.

Fun times. Fun times made extra fun by spiral noodles covered in pesto. Spiral noodles and pesto have a way of making things more fun, don’t you think?

We love having this park so close by!
