Welcome to Capitol Hill: Local Java

Since moving to DC, it’s been a lot of fun to have local coffee shops nearby. I can’t say that we frequent these places on a very regular basis, but we do enjoy having the option. Port City Java and Peregrine Espresso are both located over by Eastern Market and are about a ten-minute walk away. Port City actually isn't unique to DC as there are locations in other states and even other countries, but it isn't on every corner like Starbucks (not that I'm a Starbucks hater), and so it still sort of counts as being local in my book.

Travis occasionally likes to wander over to these neighborhood coffee shops early on Saturday mornings to read and chill out. He's a morning person and I am not, so he leaves me at home to sleep in and it is totally fine with me! Especially since he has been known to bring me back a coffee. Such service!

The above pictures are of some "latte art" at Peregrine. Almost too pretty too drink! Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of us hanging out at either of these coffee shops. Those 2 photos are it. But you can get a better feel for these places if you want to by taking a peek at their websites.

Although this post is primarily about Capitol Hill coffee, our favorite locally-owned coffee shop is actually over in Alexandria. It's called Buzz. Buzz is decorated so stinkin’ cute that I can hardly stand it (Hot pink bathroom! So fun!), has beautiful and delicious desserts, and lots of comfy seating. And they let us play our board games with friends after closing time while they're cleaning up because they're just that nice. And...even their website is cute. Sometimes I daydream about owning a bakery/coffee shop and if I did it would certainly look a lot like Buzz. Love it.

Anyone feeling like a latte now? Or perhaps a cupcake to go with it? I know I am!
