Mr. and Mrs. Sharp Go to Washington

This post is way overdue, but I still wanted to write about this anyway. Back in December my sister and her husband came out for a quick visit right after Thanksgiving. It was really fun to have them here! Steve's work schedule is crazy these days and his time off is limited, so we felt honored that they would choose to spend their vacation time with us. We enjoyed showing them around DC as well as just hanging out at home. Here's how we spent our time...

We had fun dinners at We, The Pizza and Good Stuff Eatery, coffee and chai tea at Firehook, and homemade pop-tarts at Ted's Bulletin. Mmm!

We visited the Holocaust Memorial Museum. Visiting this museum was a sobering experience, but a highly valuable one. It is so well done. I think that we spent about 3 hours there and had a good opportunity to look over all of the artifacts and read about the history and stories.

We toured Eastern Market on a Saturday morning, which is when they have the flea market going on.

Aaaaand...this was my most favorite part... We got to take a tour of the White House to see their Christmas decorations! Oh. My. Goodness. Gorgeous! And sooooo much fun. I was giddy the entire time we were there. It was all just stunning. My dream job would be to do decorating like that some day. Sigh... We also toured the Capitol building and the Cannon House Office Building. But I really, really loved seeing the White House all decked out for Christmas. (All tours compliments of Congressman Lamborn's wife's generous offering of her time and connections.)

Outside the White House!

Making a speech in the Cannon Building's caucus room. With a drum trashcan by my side. Ha! I think that my speech must be about recycling, or environmentalism, or something along those lines.

On Steve and Janessa's last night here we made appetizers for dinner and had a game night. I love doing appetizers for dinner. My mom used to do it sometimes on Sundays for football games, or watching a movie, etc. We had buffalo wings (recipe from Barefoot Contessa), jalapeno popper dip (recipe from Annie's Eats), mini "pigs in a blanket," these spinach puff things by Pilsbury, chips and homemade salsa, and veggies and hummus.

Thanks for coming out to visit guys! Come again soon!
