There are a lot of aspects of spring that are exciting...warmer weather, flowers popping up, and longer, lighter days. But my absolute favorite part is captured in this picture...
My favorite moment of spring is when I first notice leaves sneaking out of a tree's branches. There's something encouraging about seeing a breath of new life again after a cold, gray winter. It's so subtle, and yet so beautiful, the way that they quietly appear. That first glimpse always makes me catch my breath and whisper to myself with a smile, "It's here!"
I also think that the color of the leaves at the beginning of spring is stunning. I love that bright green that you really only see when the leaves are new, before they get big and turn a darker, more mature green.
These days the leaves are working their way out, and in no time the landscape here will be stunning. This year I am really looking forward to observing the famous DC cherry blossoms exhibit their extraordinary loveliness from start to finish. What a show that will be!

Yay, spring! It's nice to have you here!
