28 on the 28th

About a week and a half ago, on February 28th, my beloved husband turned 28 years old. 28 on the 28th. Wahoo! Happy birthday, Travis!

Travis had planned to take a 3-day weekend for his b-day, but unforeseen circumstances required him to work a long day on Sunday. However, we both still had Monday off of work and had a good time celebrating nonetheless. We talked about walking to an art museum or something, but it was raining out and TB was a little fried from his workday the day before, so we did what we do best... We vegetated.

Pioneer Woman cinnamon rolls graced our breakfast table once again, and this time I managed to make them without searing milk and sugar to the surface of our stovetop. Yippee! We watched "Ratatouille," which was a birthday present along with "Wall-E." Pixar films hold a special place in our heart because many of our dates have involved going to see those movies. We saw "Toy Story 2" together in the very first weeks of our relationship. Travis held my hand for the first time while watching that movie...sigh... But I digress. Back to the birthday. After our movie-watching, we read, napped, played Carcassonne, etc. It was a peaceful, lazy, delightful day.

I think that we still have plans to go out for a birthday dinner at some point, courtesy of Travis' Grandma Flora's slipping a little birthday cash in his card. Can I just say hooray for grandmas that still put money in birthday cards? So fun!

Oh...and we ate birthday pie and icecream. The pie was a recipe I got from Bon Appetit called "Crack Pie" (because it's supposed to be addictive like, well, you know), and although it was good I'm not sure that I'll make it again. The ice cream, however, was special because it was our first batch from our brand new Cuisinart ice cream maker, an appliance that we are very excited about. Meet my new friend in the kitchen...

Look how cute he is! This thing is super easy to use and churns out delicious ice cream, so we quickly became friends. We're pretty big ice cream fans in this house and therefore plan to put our little Cuisinart to good use for many years to come.

There's the birthday wrap-up, kids! In closing, I feel like I should say something thoughtful about my hunny bunny. I've read "birthday tributes" on other people's blogs before, and while it would be sweet of me to write an entire post about how amazing my husband is, part of me just wants to keep that information between him and myself. I know pretty much all of the amazing things there are to know about him, and he knows that I know. So in lieu of an entire tribute, I just want to document two things that I've been thinking about lately that are very lovable about my Travisimo (pronounced Trav-ee-see-mo)...

1) His laugh. Whenever I hear it, it makes my heart do a little jig.
2) His attitude of service towards others. He is so willing to put other people before himself, is always looking for ways that he can help others, etc. I have learned a lot from Travis in this area.

Happy birthday, love! You are the peanut butter to my jelly. The carrots to my peas. The sunshine that warms and fills my days in the most brilliant way. It is a joy to celebrate you on the 28th of February, and everyday before and after...

(Confession: The two birthday pictures in this post are actually from last year. Our camera battery charger has been missing in action, so we didn't get to take any birthday pics this year! Alas.)

I have been eyeing that ice cream maker as well. :) Happy 28th to Travis!
